Common Current is a community resource center and social experiment in sharing resources, based in Ventura, California. We believe in creating systems that work for everyone, not just those with financial means.
Currently, our active Time Exchange connects community members who share their time and skills with one another. One hour of your time equals one time credit—regardless of the service provided.
Through direct democracy and community funding, Common Current will evolve to meet the needs of our community. We envision building a tool library, hosting skill-sharing workshops, and creating a physical space where people can connect, learn, and collaborate.
Time Exchanges, sometimes called time banks, have existed for a long time. Take a look at Hour Exchange Portland for some inspiration of what a time bank can look like.
Our Vision
Common Current is growing through community input and direct democracy. While our Time Exchange is active now, we have plans to expand our offerings based on what the community wants and needs.
Tool Library

Skill Sharing
Workshops and classes where community members teach practical skills to one another, preserving knowledge and building confidence.
Physical Space
A community hub where people can gather, work on projects, access shared resources, and build connections.
The future of Common Current is up to all of us. Through community participation, direct democracy, and collaborative funding, we'll grow into the resource center our community truly needs.
